Kathryn Muse was born and grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and graduated with honors from the Louisiana Art Institute in 1996. She won First Place in her school's Annual Photography Contest that year. After graduation, she worked as a digital restoration and imaging artist, a web site designer and a graphics artist, but her passion is and always has been fine art. She also spent two years doing volunteer teaching with the Very Special Arts Festival (a yearly event in Louisiana created to involve special-needs children in the arts).

Media Kathryn has worked in include colored pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, acrylics, black & white and color photography. She is currently working mainly in color photography, but enjoys combining media by sometimes physically distressing photos and adding either paint or pastels to them and sometimes utilizing digital imaging prior to printing. She also loves to work with large prints.

Kathryn takes her camera and searches for places that speak to her. Sometimes these places end up being abandoned buildings, fields, graveyards, sometimes her own yard, sometimes they are states away; once in a blue moon in another country. Some of her projects are not photographs of found objects and scenes, but choreographed ideas, as with the Angels Series I and II. These start with an idea and certain feelings she wants to express. She spends much time commiserating over how best to bring this to life, and only after that will she actually have a photo shoot.

Kathryn lives with her husband and two children in North Georgia. They attend Mountain Lake Church on the weekends. She is an active member of the Atlanta Artists Center and the Sawnee Artist's Association, where she creates and sends out the monthly Newsletters. These are both non-profit organizations that help promote the arts in our local communties.

2006 is the first year in which Kathryn has been able to devote more time to fine art since being in art school. She has been a stay-at-home mom for the past seven years, while creating web sites and graphic design on the side, and her youngest child started Pre-K last year. Kathryn has participated in a number of juried art shows in the past two years, and has won awards in many of them. She received a Runner Up Award in the 2006 International Annual Reader's Picture Contest, "Creative/Fine Arts" category, by Popular Photography Magazine, and is featured in the January 2007 Popular Photography magazine issue and their web site.
